‘Is This As Good As It Gets?’

I want this message to reach women who may think that they can't change their life because they are too old, they have too much emotional baggage, they lack the qualifications to do so and may be thinking 'is this as good as it gets for me?’. I have news for you...it’s never too late to change your life story and I am a living testament to that.

In my early career life I jumped from job to job not knowing what I wanted to do for many years. When I started to take life more seriously I got a job working as a temporary recruitment consultant for Brook Street in 2004 when I was 25 years old, I worked hard earned my stripes and went on to became a branch manager within 2 years.

Now fast forward just over 15 years later, I have been an International Business Coordinator for an offshore investment company. I became the North American Vice President for a global engineering and design company with the responsibility of leading a business unit generating revenues of $30 million dollars, this position saw me as the first female to head a sales and delivery function in the company's 25 year history. I am now the Director of my own Equality and Diversity management consultancy and have been so blessed to have travelled and worked all over the world; India, Africa, Southeast Asia, the USA and many parts of Europe.

I have had some memorable experiences; climbing and reaching the summit of three 14000 ft mountains in the Rockies.

Singing in front of over 2000 people on stage in India.

Partnering with the Detroit Lions NFL team in America on a STEM youth literacy program to help underprivileged kids from Detroit learn how to read.

But my biggest achievement has been watching the growth of my incredible son who I have had to raise as a single parent over the last 4 years.

Not bad for a girl that grew up on a council estate, came out of school with barley any GCSE grades, dropped out of college and later did not complete her university degree🙌🏾

Some Of My Top Tips For Success In Life!

I am actually not one for giving advice as I think we all have different paths and journeys to travel and advice from others can sometimes hinder ones own self progression but if I had to tell you the things that have served me well on my journey, which is still yet to see many more amazing self discoveries the biggest pieces of advise I would give you are these:-  1. Believe and trust in something higher than yourself. For me it is God but for you it could be Allah, Buddha or the universe. Just know that you have been placed where you are supposed to be for a reason and a season even if sometimes you can't believe or understand it yourself. For me I know that through the good the bad and the spaces between that God’s plan has been built specifically for me and I choose to always be brave enough to embrace it even when it takes me out of my comfort zone.  2. Stay true to yourself! Never try to be something that you are not because sooner or later people will see through you. I can always look at myself in the mirror and say I am proud of achieving my success by never distancing myself from being the real me, staying humble and never forgetting my roots. 3. Finally have a sincere attitude of gratitude for all you have and to all who have helped and continue to help you on your journey, family, friends and enemies .The same way you treat the CEO of your company is the same way you thank and treat the janitor for helping to clean up your office or workstation. Appreciate all who help you rise both professionally and personally as without them your success would not have been possible. Don’t harbour your failures, be grateful for your setbacks and learn from them as they will be a big driver in helping you to grow.

I have read the books ‘The Secret‘ by Rhonda Byrne and ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho a number of times and would highly recommend them, they have helped me to understand that everything in life is possible, if you have already visualized it in your mind then the reality and manifestation of it is all up to you.

Stay humble and stay blessed  Alisa x
